The Hearst Cancer Resource Center
Offering support for the body, mind and soul to cancer patients and their families at no charge
Since opening in 2008, the Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC) has offered free information, support and peace of mind to cancer patients and their families on the Central Coast. As a department of French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC), this one-of-a-kind center helps countless people with cancer learn about the disease, recognize opportunities for improved health, build a personal support system and gain an extended family. The staff and volunteers are dedicated to serving patients and their families, regardless of their circumstances.
The HCRC offers more than 22 uniquely different programs and services including one-on-one patient navigation with an oncology nurse or bilingual lay patient navigator, nutrition counseling, financial assistance, an appearance center, art therapy, yoga, tai chi, lectures and support groups. The Angel of Hope Program
Bringing hope and financial support to local cancer patients in need
The Angel of Hope Fund provides immediate financial assistance for the non-medical needs of cancer patients. Funds are allocated for cancer patients and their families who are facing financial hardship due to increased costs resulting from their diagnosis and other expenses beyond their ability to pay. Financial assistance allows these patients to continue treatment uninterrupted by helping them with day-to-day expenses, such as rent, transportation, groceries, childcare and more.
100% of your gift will go directly to a local cancer patient in need. Learn more >
About French Hospital Medical Center and the Foundation
French Hospital Medical Center
(FHMC) is San Luis Obispo’s only not-for-profit hospital
and one of the region’s proudest success stories of recent years. Established in 1946, FHMC joined Dignity Health in 2004. Since then, FHMC has made a rapid resurgence as a nationally recognized leader in providing top quality care, regardless of ability to pay. Our mission is to provide quality services delivered in a compassionate and cost-effective manner, to serve and advocate for the poor and disenfranchised, and to partner with others in the community to improve quality of life.
As a not-for-profit hospital, FHMC relies on private support and contributions to meet the changing health care needs of our community. The French Hospital Foundation partners with the community to provide funding and resources to support the life-saving programs and services of FHMC. 100% of every donation to the Foundation stays local and benefits our community. FHMC covers all Foundation operating costs, which means that 100% of your donation goes directly where it is needed most – patient care.
